Can we Omit a Skill Section in a Resume?

Skill section is an indispensable part of resume that states the abilities of a candidate to perform the given task. A potential employer can recognize your value by going through the skill section. You have lots of skills but while organizing the section keep in mind to add job related skills only. It will convince a potential employer that you have the ability to carry out the job responsibilities. Can we omit a skill section? Certainly not but on the other hand we can omit unrelated skills from the skill section. It may change according to the format i.e. if you are a fresher your skills would be eight or nine on the other hand for experienced it could be ten or eleven.

It means you can use bullet points and put the important skills above or give first priority to them and add others consequently. In technical resume you can divide these skills by separating technical skills from other ones.

Add skills according to the job description
When you add skills in resume it is necessary to know about that what a potential employer is searching for or expecting. You should insert only those skills that specify your job description in clear and perfect manner. Do not include unrelated skills i.e. if you are applying for the position of a non technical field job it would be futile to add computer skills. However you can avoid generic skills if it is not possible to maintain the skills section properly.

Use the combination of skills if the job title allows you
There are three types of job related skills that specify your job responsibility, transferable skills that are learnt in one field but can be applicable for other one, and adaptive skills that includes personality traits and characteristics. It will pop out your skills in effective manner.

Use active vocabulary or words while depicting your skills
When you use action words with the skills it shows the effectiveness of your job title. These keywords add the value in your resume. It specifies your job responsibilities and states that you have the ability to do the particular work effectively. For example you can use the words like motivation, encourage, inspiration, execution, implementation etc. it pops out you skills and may catch the eyes of the potential employer. You can enlist such words and add them with your skills so that it brings positive result.
