A Day with Design Assistant

Following are the duties that design assistants generally perform throughout the day:

8 a.m.:

Reach office well before the time (rest of the employees come at 9 am). Make sure everything is in order in the office.

8:30 a.m.:

Check the e-mails and voicemail. Assess the day's activities and appointments and confirm it by calling. Change the program if needed and prepare the schedule for the chief interior designer.

9 a.m.:

Other staff arrive. Activate the switchboard for all incoming calls. Arrange appointments of sales representatives with interior designers. Interact with customers as well as salespersons.

10 a.m.:

Converse with the chief interior designer. Obtain directions on various tasks including contacting vendors about memo items, client appointments, collecting samples of fabrics from the design center, and posting a letter to a potential customer.

11 a.m.:

Work on assigned projects, while operating the switchboard continuously. Prepare a letter and pass it on to the chief designer for proof. Interact with dealers about memo items and organize the delivery with the local transport service.

12 p.m.:

Send the amended letter to the prospective client. Visit the various fabric houses and provide the design center with vital information. Go for lunch.

1:30 p.m.:

Check emails and voicemails. Read and arrange mail. Organize the office for client meeting. Make sure the conference room is well organized for the meetings. Provide last minute information to head designer for the meeting.

2:30 p.m.:

Attend clients, ask them to sit in conference room, and offer drinks and snacks. Also perform some additional projects as per the request of staff members.

4:00 p.m.:

Attend calls on behalf of the chief designer. Also fix more appointments for the rest of the week.

5:00 p.m.:

Leave for home as there is no urgent work to complete.
