The defense career consists of main three types of jobs:-
There are different departments in defense like Aviation, engineering, management, health care and science, communication, IT, Logistics, Hospitality and support, Business and administration, combat and security. The military jobs have now become more technical and complex, so a person should be determined and focused to enter into this career and sustain till the end. Therefore, lots of courage is necessary.

In the defense career the tasks that are carried out depends on the type of department they are working for.
- Officer and management : A career as an officer in Air force, they can work as a pilot flying Military aircrafts and helicopters. Administrative officers keep accurate information for planning and operations of the department.
They can further work in specialized area like finance, accounting, maintenance, supply and transportation.

- As engineers, they have to maintain the ships in Navy and aircrafts in Air force. Engineering, science, and technical personnel use their knowledge to operate equipments, solve complex problems and maintain it.
- Soldiers have to fight with enemies at time of war to protect their country. This reminds the great work done by the Indian soldiers at the time of Kargil war.
- Transportation and material handling specialists take care of the transport of the other defense members and cargo. Aircrew members operate equipment on aircraft.
- Medical specialists take regular heath check ups of the defense people and make sure they are physically fit. They may work as a part of the team of doctors, dentists, nurses, and physical therapists.
Qualification:-
The basic requirement to enter the defense career is a bachelor's degree. A military schooling will be an added advantage. The candidates can qualify only if they meet specified age, aptitude, physical and character requirements. These requirements depend on the branch of service. There are many institutes that give academic and technological training required for defense jobs. The cadets can pass out with the degree with a specialist in Army, Navy or Air force and can join any of the departments in the field.

- Good interpersonal skills
- Clear, concise and effective communication skills
- Able to motivate and co-ordinate with others
- Good aptitude to absorb new skills so that can operate different equipments and good sportsman

Place of work:-
In the defense career, they have to mostly work near the borders of the country. However the place of work depends on the branch of service, work specialty, and other factors. Most of them work and live on or near the military bases. They have no fixed time of work and at times of emergency wars, they have to work for days and months continuously until the mission gets completed.

Remuneration:-
In the defense career, the salary paid is better than the other jobs. The salary can rise depending on the performance, competency and years of service. Or alternatively if the skills are improved along with further studies can help to increase salary package.
Other benefits:-There are many benefits given to the defense people as they serve for our nation leaving their family members. In the defense job, they have to travel most of the times, so they are provided with housing facilities. After ten years of job in defense, they are eligible to have three months long service leave. They are also provided with free medical and dental care, military clothing allowance, and stored shopping privileges. They are also given funds.
Job Progress:-
The entry level position in defense career is cadetship and then with years of experience a cadet can become an Officer (Leader/ Manager). Those who want to be in general service enter as soldiers in Army, Airman in Air force and sailor in Navy. With years of experience they go for senior positions or some can even become trainers in institutes. Some of them also become specialists such as a medical personnel, engineering personnel, and instrumentalists.
Employment forecast:-
The demand for defense career is expected to grow as faster as compared to other occupations. The increase in necessity for a nations' security and preserve the freedom, the demand for defense jobs will always be increasing. Most of the defense jobs expect 20 years of service and then the personnel can retire and can opt for other careers.
