Job Opportunities in Electrical Engineering

Electrical engineering is the largest engineering discipline. If you are an electrical engineering degree holder, then there are various industries that provide good career opportunities. Electrical engineers have many jobs available as there is a boom in fields like automobile, robotics, trains, air conditioning and refrigerators. All these fields hire electrical engineers.

Computer, consumer electronics as well as telecommunications companies are among the leading employers for electrical engineers. Electrical engineers may consider these fields, however these companies also hire mechanical engineers for package designing. Big companies like Motorola, Cisco, Dell, IBM, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments always have job openings for electrical engineers at their home offices as well as international offices.

There are also various smaller companies which manufacture computing and telecommunications equipment. These companies also provide good openings for electrical engineers.

In the last few years, the electronic appliances industry has been progressing, and crossed $200 billion last year. General appliances like refrigerators, air conditioners, oven and stoves have gained from this boom. Such growth generates more job openings. However, many companies complain that there are no skilled engineers in their own country, and so start to hire electrical engineers from other countries.

However, electrical engineering jobs have not declined worldwide. Electronic appliances companies always come with new, improved products which help this industry to sustain their growth. In industries like computers and mobile, new products are launched every few months. Large part of the revenue of the company comes from the products which are launched in the last 18 months or so. Electrical engineers are in demand in such companies which require design expertise for simpler products.

It is also possible for electrical engineers to work in a different field. Many engineers start with traditional areas of electronics and then switch to an area of their interest. Some of the unconventional fields for electrical engineers are guitar amplifiers, race cars and medical instruments industries. Electronics is an area that holds unlimited career opportunities for electrical engineers who want to work in diverse areas.
