Consider a young patient who suffers from a spinal cord injury, he has strength and flexibility limits in different muscle groups depending upon the injury level. A young woman patient having numerous scleroses might have functional limits in balance and coordination. Early assessment carried out by the physical therapist incorporates calculations of a wide area of abilities.

Physical therapists are responsible for determining the capacity of a person in terms of strength, flexibility, endurance, balance, coordination, skin integrity, gait along with capacity to perform day to day activities. After early assessment of a patient, the physical therapist will chart out a set of problems with physical functions and review these problems and decide how to tackle them through exercise, massage or a modality like ultrasound technique and electrical stimulation.

In recent times, physical therapists also work as consultants and use through their knowledge of exercise. Physical therapists who are in clinical and educational arena may also engage in research projects to fix on the treatment interventions they are currently using. In today's health care field, physical therapists should be patient supporter which means balance the twin roles of offering specialist information to patients and also allow the patient to take part in selecting options for treatment.
