Security guards also known as security officers who patrol and inspect property to protect against theft, fire, terrorism, vandalism, and other illegal activities. The work of security guard is to protect employers' investment, prevent criminal activities, and other problems.

Security guards use telephone and radio communications to call for assistance from fire, police, and other emergencies. The work of Armored Car Guard is to guard money and valuable during transportation. Additionally, these guards protect individuals who are responsible for making commercial bank deposits from injury or theft. Armored car guards pick up money and valuables from businesses for transportation to another location. Gaming surveillance officers also called gaming investigators or surveillance agents serve as security agents for casino patrons and managers. Every security officers should follow directions, show good judgment, follow company guidelines and policies, and testify accurately in court. In an emergency, security officers should be able to take charge and guide others to safety. In larger establishments, a security manager may observe a security officer's group. However in small establishments, one security officer is accountable for all security.

Work Environment
Many gaming surveillance officers and security guards spend ample amount of time on their feet by patrolling grounds and buildings. A security guard spends time at a guard desk inside a building to examine electronic security. Security guard can be stationed at guardhouse that is outside the entrance. They use cellular telephone or portable radio to remain in contact with a central station.

Security guards should be persistently alert for threats to property and other valuables. Guards who are serving in day time have to interact with a number of employees and other people. Gaming surveillance officers, usually, work behind a bank. They supervise controlling cameras in a casino and therefore can develop eyestrain.

Security guards serve forty hours a week. They have to be available in case of an emergency. They may have to work in shifts including weekends, daytime, and holidays. Generally, guards have to eat on their job in spite of a break away from the site.

Training and Educational Qualification
Usually, there is specific education for security guards. However, employers prefer candidates with a high school diploma. Candidates who would like to become gaming surveillance officers need education beyond a high school diploma. In some of the states, guards ought to be licensed.

There are many employers who offer on-the-job training to new employees. They teach employees various skills required to perform the tasks. Some armed guards are given special training in areas like laws covering and weapons retention. Guards can be occasionally tested in the use of firearms.
