Retail jobs changes extensively in terms of compensation and required skills. Most retail careers involve interacting with customer and standing for long period of time. It is added asset for salesperson if he has natural sales ability especially he is paid on commission.

Salespeople who sell items like jewelry, cars and electronic home appliances are paid on commission. While those employees who work in the grocery stores are paid an hourly basis. Salespersons can advance to higher position to manage the group of employees. However, promotion involves job changing.


Interviews in retail careers, job positions may be an informal chat to more official interview. Stores involved in selling pricey products will examine their employees more cautiously. While in supply chain stores have a more standardized procedure for hiring their staff. Some stores also conduct personality tests. Recruitment process has one to five rounds of interviews.

According to BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics, retail industry will grow a rate of 9 to 17 percent during 2004 and 2014. Retail sector offers plenty of job opportunities for aspirants of all ages groups and educational levels. Retail industry is also good options for entry-level jobs.

However, working in retail sector is not easy. One should be very patient and polite even with tough customers. Also one has to work extra time especially in peak season. Retail industry changes according to economy. Retail sector has high turnover which require specialized people for particular positions, skills.
