Nature of Works
Some successful models, called supermodels, have celebrity status. They use their image to sell calendars, books, shoes, fitness videos, and other products. Besides modeling, they may appear in television shows and movies. Models appear in the printed publications as well. They also appear in the television and live modeling to promote and advertise services and products.
Some models work for printed publications and they generally do a combination of commercial, editorial, and catalog work. Even today, models work for editorial print modeling where they give still photographs for fashion magazine covers and accompany feature articles.

Commercial print modeling incorporates work for advertisement for newspapers, magazines, and billboards. Some catalog models appear in the mail order catalogs as well as in department stores. While giving a photo shoot, a model poses to demonstrate the aspects of products and clothing.
Models need to make small changes in gestures, postures, and facial expression to capture a suitable look for a particular product. They have to act as desired by clients. Models work with clothing stylists, photographers, hair stylists, clients, and artists to provide a desired look and to execute the photo shoot within the prescribed time.
Make up and stylist artists prepare the model for photo shoot. They change the look of models, as the situation requires. In case stylists are not provided, models need to apply their own make up and get their own clothing. Clients spend their money and time preparing and planning an advertising campaign. Generally, clients are present at the workplace to ensure that the work is satisfactory.
As compared to other types of modeling, editorial print work pay less to models. However, work for print may lead the model to commercial modeling opportunities. Models prefer to start their career in foreign countries where fashion magazines are more plentiful.
Live modeling is executed in a variety of locations. Live models walk, turn, and stand to demonstrate clothing to a number of audiences. At showrooms and fashion shows, garment purchasers are the chief audiences.
Haute couture or high fashion, runway models walk a runway before an audience of journalists, photographers, garment purchasers, and designers. Live modeling is executed in department stores, apparel marts, and fitting rooms of clothing designers. In retail companies, models display clothing for shoppers and may need to explain price and features of clothing.

Physically challenged people who are interested in this field have an excellent opportunity to make a career. They may work for disabled customers. Thus, modeling is a global career option. Models need to carry out various responsibilities of which some are given below.
Responsibilities
- Display merchandise and clothing in advertisements, commercials, and fashion shows.
- Style hair and apply make up to face to reinforce appearance considering factors such as camera techniques, color, and facial features
- Dress in completed or sample garments and choose accessories
- Follow strict routines of sleep, diet, and exercise in order to maintain appearance
- Collect information from clients concerning the dates, pay, provisions, times, and lengths of jobs
- Pose as desired, strike appropriate poses for selling and promoting products and fashions during filming, appearances, and photo sessions
- Pose for photographers and artists
- Promote services and products in videos, films and television commercials
- Turn, stand, and walk to demonstrate aspects of garments for audiences in a fashion shows, retail establishments, and private showings
- Work together with fashion coordinators, photographers, producers, directors, make up artists, stylists, other models, and clients in order to create desired looks and complete photo shoot within the time.
- Maintain and assemble print composite cards, portfolios, and travel to overseas to get good jobs
- Hand out gifts, samples, converse with children, demonstrate products, and discuss with adults while dressed in costume
- Inform potential buyers about numbers, models, and prices of garments
- Make backstage decisions during fashion shows and yet keep good posture before audiences
- Register rates of pay and job durations on given vouchers
- Obtain information about clients, future appointments, and report completions to agencies
