Unit assistants are administrative support staff of health care industry. They are hired to support the team of nursing and physicians by providing them needed supplies necessary for the treatment of patients. The assistants also handle phone calls of visitors, attend patients at the facility, and process insurance papers of patients. The job holders also make patients' appointments with physicians and arrange for transportation to and from the facility.

While education is not the main criterion of selection, a high school diploma is the minimum requirement though. Interested candidates should have outstanding customer service and computer skills. They should be good physical conditions to work for longer hours and lift and push objects of 25 to 60 lbs in weight.
