A dredge is an equipment that is used for clearing gravel, sand, and rock by scraping or gathering up the bottom sediments. It is attached to a boat and when operated, it cleans the soil erosion. Dredging helps in easy navigation through water bodies. A dredge operator does the task of operating the dredge and removing the sand, gravel or other materials, as per the instructions. Along with the excavation function, they undertake the operations, repairs and maintenance of anchors, levers, pumps, pipelines and other auxiliary equipment. They must possess strong aptitude towards the technical and mechanical aspects of operating the dredge and other equipment as required.
