WOW! Having a job involving the fashion world must be the most exciting thing in the world for a girl. She can have the possibility to travel a lot around the country or if she's really lucky, around the world. She can meet a lot of famous, interesting people; people who anybody would sometimes pay an arm and a leg to meet and talk to for at least ten minutes. And let's not forget the fame, free products and the money coming along.
But what are the possibilities of getting such a glamorous life?
First of all, and probably the easiest thing would be to become a runway fashion model or a model for a magazine. For the first option, there are a lot of conditions that need to be met. The modeling agencies usually search for (really) tall girls, (pretty) thin and having certain face features that they think are special, or make her unique.
The magazine model girls don't usually encounter the same hardships as the runway models. Mostly, these are girls that just pose, and if they have a body part better looking than other girls, then they can pose more with/ for products meant for that body part: if she has a beautiful hair, she will be mostly used for presenting hair products; nice feet will promote shoes and so on.
One can work for a modeling agency, as a secretary or receptionist. This job is also related to fashion, because it is behind the scenes that most of the interesting action happens.
Another job in the fashion industry is that of a fashion designer. A fashion designer can work and have his or her own fashion house like Christian Dior (1905 - 1957) did, or can work for other fashion houses like Karl Lagerfeld (1933), for Chanel and other fashion houses, including his own. Of course, in a fashion house, there isn't only the fashion designer working, but also the people creating the templates for the clothes, the administration of the house and many more departments. All of these departments are in need of personnel, so if someone qualifies for the job and if there is an opening, this could be another chance to enter the fashion world.
You are completely wrong to think that these are all the possibilities! One can work for a fashion magazine or as a fashion critique or fashion stylist. These three occupations have at least one thing in common: to criticize or to show the world what people should wear during the current or next season if they want to be considered fashionable, classy, stylish persons. They also teach people what to wear to enhance their assets and what to avoid (shapes, colors, patterns, lengths, textures).
The fashion world is not only open to women, but to men also, because men need to look good as well, especially men that are managers of important companies or guys attending various events that impose some certain clothes: weddings, cocktail parties, charity events and so on.
