The freelancers are individuals who work on their own in a given domain. Usually, in order to be a freelancer in any area of work, you would need some money to invest in really good tools in order to be able to deliver a good project of high quality. OK, this may be true for some freelancers out there, but not for all of them. A journalist mostly needs good luck to be able to find interesting things to write about, and afterwards, any decent computer will do the trick.
But for an architect or an interior designer, a really good computer, with good powerful tools which will help them create projects with as many details as possible, is very important. It is important not to forget that, in some cases, using the old fashioned pen and paper will be good or necessary. For them, the computer will be able to give a good image of what the project is supposed to look like in the end. Also, it is helpful to find the right people and materials to be used for the project.
For a web designer, it goes without saying that they need the best computer and programs they can find, plus additional equipment like video cameras and others. Everybody knows that the software is not always for free, and especially in the case of the best ones. It is true that they will last for some time, but the time comes to change the older versions with newer versions.
A freelancer photographer will need many tools and materials for his job, and these are yet very expensive. Professional photographers usually have a studio, more cameras, lights, and the necessary chemicals to develop the pictures taken. Of course, using a digital camera and modifying the image on the computer before printing can also be done, and this method is used in many places.
A freelancer doesn't have a stable income; he or she depends on the opportunities that come their way. Many if not all freelancers like this type of employment because they do not need to keep up with a working schedule from an office (probably main reason), or they do not like to be told what to do and when to do it. They feel free and in control of their lives. Some of these individuals manage to build their careers and to have their own firms, some smaller than others, but pretty successful. Freelancing are a good option for those who want to learn what to do on the job and weren't lucky of being accepted at a big company.
