Today, when the words "human resources" are said, everybody thinks of the department of a firm in charge of hiring new people for the company. And it is precisely this that I am supposed to also write about. And I will, but first we need to understand some things about a company from an economical point of view. At this point, probably many people would like to manage their own companies in order not to work for someone else, but for themselves, thinking that they will have better results. It may be true, indeed.

However, one has to consider a lot of things, before one thinks that one is capable to manage a company alone. To create a firm, one needs resources and many of them. First of all, there is a need of financial resources (or money, and lots of it); there is a need for the actual material resources and tools which will provide the goods to be sold and human resources, which represent the work force creating the goods.

It is only by extension that the department for human resources term started to be used as it is today. In reality, this office is in charge of providing working force for the company. Because of this, this office is pretty important for a company.

Today, there are even companies that offer the service of finding appropriate candidates for companies in exchange for a price. These human resources' companies are a good place to start for those in search of a job because they will be part of a database and could be called for an interview for more jobs at once.

The human resources personnel is trained to recognize the best candidates for a company, can give career advice to those who seem to have troubles in finding a job, and offer confidentiality to both employer and candidates. This is one of the reasons for which big firms will collaborate with these agencies.

Inside a firm, this office is responsible of the data of all employees, of making sure there are no open spots, of creating the papers for a new working contract or for one that ends, paying salaries according to the results of each person and others. Also, they need to make sure that the people called for an interview match the job description, that are really qualified for the job by testing the candidates. Also, it is the personnel here that put the ads for the new spots in the newspapers or on the Internet.

Most of these people need to have some university education (diploma) in psychology for a better reading of the candidate, but this is true for the recruiting agencies. The actual firms will probably just have someone with more experience as HR personnel for the department.

It is generally known that big firms will have more stages (the least is two) for the interview (depending on the free position) and the first one is with the human resources.
