Doing the job of an Island reef caretaker is not a joke, but a proposition as serious as it can be, made from the Tourism Queensland. And it's not even about luck because you can't just get to do this job but you first need to pass through a serious competition with strong rivals. It is a job based on a contract, for a specific number of months. You will have to dive in and explore the island reefs and then make reports about your discoveries. You might be asked to take some photos or videos and even to make a blog for yourself in order to attract people and make them curious to find more about those reefs that you are taking care of.
Responsibilities
You dive, you see, you keep in mind. You tell to your superiors what you have discovered. But you might also be asked to feed the fish that live inside the reef; and I'm telling you there must be like over one thousand different species in there. The good part is that you won't have to feed all of them, but only those who are in more delicate situations as species. You might also be asked to clean some pools where they are installed for tourists, even though a minimum system for automatically filtering the water should be available. You will be responsible of taking care of your diving equipments, your oxygen supplies and other things you will be using daily, like the filming apparatus.
Conditions
If you are passionate about swimming and diving, I bet you are more than anxious to find out what it really takes in order to get this job that seems more like a dream. Obviously, you will need to make proof of your impressive swimming skills and also to convince the employer that you are really passionate about diving, snorkeling and other outdoor activities. You should also prove that you have some experience in this field of activity, not necessary with island reefs, but with diving in general. You might be required for some communicational and interpersonal skills as well as the ability of interacting with people and of learning new things. An adventurous spirit and real passion are the things you can not hide when applying for this job and, luckily, things you don't even need to hide but, on the contrary, to show them. Should I say once again that getting such a job would be like living a dream? But we have to wake up!
