Alberta is a prairie province in Canada with about 4 million people living there. What makes her so famous and what attracts many other people who are looking for a job is that it is the biggest producer of natural gases and of synthetic and conventional crude oils in Canada. On a global scale, it is the 4th producer and the 2nd exporter of natural gases. This also opens a lot of employment opportunities for all those looking for a job in petrochemicals, or as manufacturers of vinyl and polyethylene. Oil refineries, just like the petrochemical industry, are the most profitable businesses in Alberta. Since they have a lot to work, they need a lot of workers too. And because the sectors are so profitable, they treat their employees very well, making them feel valued and respected and the high salaries are just one aspect of their benefits.
Oil Industry
This one is undoubtedly the driving force of this country's economy for the last few decades and it continues to be as profitable, mainly because the oil price also continues to grow. They are currently offering thousands of jobs in this sector, for various activities like exploration, followed by production, then depositing and transportation; the next step would be the distribution and finally the refining. You can imagine how huge and extremely well developed is this whole infrastructure created for this process. Creating new technologies for making things easier and less expensive is a constant concern, so all those who think they can really make a change are free to try their luck and impress someone to hire them, for a lot of money.
Oil Sands
Still from this same chapter, I would like to mention the oil sands deposits in Alberta, which are said to satisfy the needs of the population for a whole century. From the researches made so far, these reserves occupy a surface larger than the one of Florida and they are situated in the north east of the province. This is basically hard oil, which doesn't flow without being first heated and thinned with the help of some specific lighter hydrocarbons. Just to give you an idea about how this industry is developing, I would like to mention a statistic that approximates that until 2020, the daily production of oil will rise somewhere to 3 million barrels and by 2030, to 5 million. So the years to come announce great opportunities for everyone interested in working in this industry.
Drilling Industry
This is yet another crucial aspect of the industry. Drilling is not only used in those places where specific equipments need to be installed in order to extract oil or gases, but also in regions where it is supposed that such resources exist. Before starting all the work, someone has to verify whether there are such deposits or not. And the drilling technologies are extremely expensive, costing up to billions of dollars. There are the so called contractors who come with their own drilling rigs when contracted by the important oil companies. This operation is an engineering process, but not to get into difficult details, I will only mention that there are two different types of drilling - directional or deep well. The most important aspect is that in this domain, the changes are considerable and there is a constant need for laborers and well trained and skilled workers to make sure that things work as planned and that enormous machinery that costs more than you can imagine, will keep doing its work i.e. drilling money.
