If you are looking for a job or even for a career and you don't know where you should be heading, let me give you a hint. Sales careers always have opportunities, no matter how difficult are the times we are living in. This is because people will always buy things and companies will always be interested in hiring people to represent their interests. Working as a sales agent might tempt you because it can offer you interesting experiences every day, it doesn't require too many studies and financial benefits come together with your efforts - the more you work, the more you'll be paid. And don't worry, there are other positions too, but you have to start from somewhere and if you have no experience and no solid educational background, you should take what you are given, at least in the beginning.
Career Opportunities
You know what they say, that you cannot always get what you want. But no one stops you from trying to attain your goals and sometimes, you might get what you need, if not what you want. Things are more or less like this in sales too. You don't necessarily have to think sales agents spend their whole day on the roads trying to get in touch with clients and to convince them to purchase your products, but with no results. And not just because there are indoor sales agents, but because there are other opportunities in this career too, like: sales supervisor and engineers, rental clerks, counter clerks, models, demonstrators, promoters, retail sales, sales agents and real estate brokers, insurance agents specialized in sales, financial services agents, securities and commodities agents. Some of these jobs require a specific educational level, some sort of experience and some degrees. But natural talents, like those who really seem made for performing specific tasks and obtaining the best results, are encouraged by their employers and might also benefit from the so called on the job training or at least, they are allowed to do some studies in order to be promoted.
How to Start Working in Sales?
First impression really matters. So think of the initial stage, when you send your CV and cover letter because it is your chance of showing what you are made of. Prove to your employer that you are reliable and eventually announce him that you will come back with a phone call for more details regarding your interview. Try to choose a company that seems to be interested in hiring young persons and also in investing in their trainings and a position from which you will be promoted. Try to impress at your meeting through persistence because this can really make a change of mind in your favor. And make a point from saying you are really ambitious and, more important, optimistic - a quality without which you cannot succeed.
Things to Avoid
Do not be affected by rejections. As a sales man you will be confronted with such situations more than once on a daily basis. So accepting a defeat shows once again that you are ready to start working in this business. Don't forget to respect the golden rule - clients come first, always. Don't be negative, don't be afraid to use viral campaigns for attracting clients, don't waste any situation to help you learn new things, don't you ever say you cannot do one thing until you try it. Don't lose your hope. This road can be rough at times but remember why you took this path from the beginning. It takes time to learn tricks, to gather some faithful clients and to make yourself a name. It will definitely be worth the efforts.
