We've evolved so much in terms of means of communication; from the fire and smoke signals used centuries ago, we have managed to create a whole industry based on phones, internet, television and God knows what other kind of services. We no longer speak of some sort of signal communication, but about voice, image, internet communication and we can have both voice and image communication, in real time, from one part of the globe to the other. Businesses, individuals, households, they all need telecommunications equipments.
We are in the situation when we cannot go to the grocery without making a phone call to ask what kind of peppers to buy. That says a lot about us. Obviously, we shouldn't turn this monologue about communications into a mockery because telecommunications have a huge impact on global scale actions. After all, we are humans and communication defines us. So the more systems we have, the better it is.
Career Opportunities
One list with working positions on a telecommunication company has no less than 102 different jobs. I am going to mention just a few of them, of course - antenna installer, cable jointer, broadcast careers, engineers or technicians, radio dispatchers or mechanics, network system analysts, operators for communication equipments, installers and repairers for stations, database administrators, analysts in telecommunications, telephone operators or salespeople, television aerial workers, intelligence officers and so far and so forth.
All the available jobs regard four different sectors: wired equipments, wireless equipments, satellite communication and other establishments for telecommunication. Even though the wireless area has developed so much, wired services continue to have supremacy in this field.
Job Tasks
As you can imagine, I'm not going to detail every single position I have previously mentioned. I am only going to make some references about how people work in telecommunications systems. There are the workers specialized in installing, maintaining and repairing occupations. Then there are the personnel responsible with the office support and with the administrative tasks. It's either accounting or public relationships or emergency assistance that they have to do. Then, there are the professionals who do the so called bottom work - they plant cables and wires i.e. they do the hard work on the field. And last but not the least, there are the sales employees who keep the business on the market, if I can say so, because they are the ones to come up with new clients. And almost 20 percent of the working positions are dedicated to this area just because of its importance.
Working Conditions
All the employees of a telecommunication center usually work about 40 hours a week. Even so, specific situations might require working overtime - when some emergencies occur and mass telecommunication destructions appear, teams must go to the scene place and do their best to solve problems in a short time. People have paid for certain services and they expect to be provided with them; when these are not offered because of causes that are beyond them, it is important that professionals do their best to fix the problems. Depending on the position, some jobs might be indoor, while other outdoor conditions can vary. The field workers might get tips while the office workers might get headaches because of angry customers. Still, the leading positions are the most wanted and that's because they come with comfortable and clean offices, and also because they come with more moral and intellectual responsibilities than hard working requirements.
Just to signalize a tendency, in the past two years, salaries started to stagnate and the number of employments in the field has registered a sensitive reduction. Still, telecommunications are a part of our lives, so jobs will be available for a long time from now on.
