Assistants are hired to lend a helping hand in daily routine of work setting. Some assist with personal or home-related tasks, while others are strictly based at one's place of employment. They are needed in all the fields be it academic, scientific, legal, politics, manufacturing, film production, medical, sales and marketing, customer service, etc. The education and experience requirement vary from employer to employer. However, whether you have these employable qualities or not, you will need an assistant resume to apply. If you enjoy assisting others, use these tips to draft an assistant resume.
Here are some tips for writing an effective resume:
- Start your resume with personal and contact details at the top. The details should contain your name, current address, active phone number and email address. This chunk of information should stand out from rest of the body text. Hence, make the information 14 font size and bold your name. This contact detail is necessary for employers to know who you are and how to contact you.
- An objective on your resume is a must to show your aspirations and the position you want to work on. However, relating your goals to your profession is necessary to sound convincing. For an assistant position, the objective should not read “to help the management in presenting and achieving business goals.” This kind of statement will suit for those applying for a management position. Hence, don't go overboard in trying to impress hiring manager with your objective statement. Be as simple and honest as you could.
- Make a sub-heading and name it “Summary of Skills.” Under this section, include as many skills you poss for an assistant position. Some skills relating to an assistant position may be similar. If you hold them, add it. To stand out, you can as well add any specialized skills. However, be honest and don't just copy and paste them.
- Create a section for education and list all qualifications you have achieved. You can also add any unfinished certification course that you are taking. Include the college or institution name, degree and year of passing or expecting result.
- As chronological resume format is widely used in the job market, start with your recent job and move down. Mention your job title, name of the company, city and zip and the year of employment. Present what you are doing in bullet points. Use one bullet for describing one tasks. You can add as many depending on the your job tasks.
- Create an achievement section if you have any to add. Mention your contribution in any activities that helped the company, or special recognition from your superiors.
- If you hold any membership that goes with your profession, add it in a new section.
