The audio engineer is a person with training and experience in the manipulation and production of sound through analog or digital means. He can be sometimes designated as recording engineer or sound engineer. These persons are often listed in the credits of several commercial music recordings.

Generally an audio engineer is familiar with the installation, design, and/or operation of sound reinforcement, sound recording, or sound broadcasting equipment including small and large format consoles.
In the recording studio, the person records, manipulates, edits, masters, and/or mixes sound by technical means to understand the record producer's or artist's creative vision. An audio engineer is usually associated with music and deals with wide range of applications including live sound reinforcement, post-production for video and film, advertising, broadcasting, and multimedia. In case of video game designing an audio engineer can be referred as computer programmer.
