A civil engineer is an individual who works in the field of civil engineering, which is one of many engineering professions. In the past years the civil engineers only work on the public work projects and they were contrasted with the military engineers, those works on defenses and armaments.

Over time passes, many engineering branches have been recognized as distinct from civil engineering including mechanical engineering, chemical engineering and electrical engineering. And much of the military engineering branches are absorbed by civil line engineering.
Civil engineer plays a significant role in society. They design airports, roads, bridges, dams, parking lots and other infrastructures. Before the construction of any building they must test soil to make sure that a building accommodates a site, read blueprints, complete survey of land, supervise construction and analyze water flow.
