The chief operating officer is the highest ranking member of an organization and is responsible to report to the board of directors and chief executive officer. The COO is generally considered to be as a senior vice president or an executive.
The CEO is generally too busy to supervise and monitor daily production quotas and other factors and this is why a company needs a chief operating officer. The COO is responsible for the design, development, improvement, and operation of the systems that create and deliver the products or services of an organization.
