There are four different and major fields of activity, which include public, government, management and internal auditing. For any of these, a simple bachelor's degree is not enough. Depending on every single job position, a specific educational background is required.
Public Accountant
This is what we all imagine when we hear about accountants. They work for a wide range of businesses, personal firms and companies, and they do all sort of tasks: auditing, accounting, consultancy for the customers and so far. They are also divided into specific specialties like tax matters, employees' compensations or data processing and audits. They all need to obtain a certificate shortly known as CPAs, obviously as an abbreviation from the public accountants' name. In most of the situations, they work for their personal businesses or for some public firms specialized in accounting.
Government Accountant
This job is conceived for the public sector and the responsibilities of one accountant working for the government are about checking all the records of governmental agencies and auditing all those individuals or businesses that are closely related with the taxation system or the regulations established by government.
Management Accountant
Management accountants are more commonly known as managerial or cost accounts. They are responsible with analyzing the records and the financial information at their work place and also with providing managerial indications for improving the business starting from the obtained results. This is why they are included in the executive teams and they are consulted when financial strategies are about to be established.
Internal Audits
What else could an internal auditor do if not verifying the internal records of a firm, looking for mismanagement proof, fraud or waste attempts? They have a wide range of responsibilities, taking care of management procedures and having to evaluate the effectiveness, the efficiency and the compliance with the general laws for all the procedures and transactions inside the company.
