Caregivers are the ones who take care of disabled people or elderly inside their homes, assuring they are secure, fed and clean. Caregivers have an important role in health-care, even though this role is not often recognized by others. Caregivers work with patients in their homes where they take care of pretty much any task, from cleaning and cooking, to bathing and dressing. There are some caregivers who work in facilities rather than just homes and some even provide nursing services while others only play the role of a companion. Care Facility Caregiver
Working after a regular program at a care facility is one of the most common types of caregiver jobs. Caregivers who work in this domain are often companions for the residents of the facility and their responsibility is to make them feel at home. Additionally, caregivers may clean or dispense medications, or just maintain the safety of the residents. In most of the cases, this job is performed by volunteers or charitable institutions.
Home Caregiver
Some caregivers live with the patient in his or her house in order to preserve his/her safety and comfort. The patients are mostly people with a disability or incapacitated elderly who need a continual care. Caregivers, who work in such circumstances, usually encounter an intense experience with a lot of stress and duties, and only those who are properly prepared for this profession are happy and successful in the job.
Some caregivers work with people at home, but only for a few hours a day if the patients' do not need a continual supervision. Caregivers, who are involved in this type of job, mostly spare the work of the person's initial caregiver, such as a family member. This job includes companionship for the patient and fewer responsibilities. In this situation, caregivers can even socialize with the person they are in charge of, because most of the people who need such care are not capable of doing this elsewhere.
Child Caregiver
Children caregivers play the role of a substitute parent, and many parents rely on them to preserve the safety of their children and to make sure that the family's life goes smoothly. The child caregivers' job is to ensure that the children are safe and healthy, which is one of the main responsibilities of all caregivers. Child caregivers can work as babysitters and take care of child-related housework while spending time giving care to the child directly. In this domain, caregivers sometimes spend more time with the children than their parents and in that case, they have to make conferences with the parents to discuss child related issues such as health, school and interpersonal problems.
Beyond care for the elderly, disabled and children, there are also caregiver jobs even for pets or other groups that need assistance and each one of these groups has specific needs, which can be covered only by a caregiver who is specialized in only one group. To provide such assistance, one must be a professional and have special skills in order to be a successful caregiver.
