Everybody who thinks of cleaning jobs generally raise an eyebrow. Why is that? Because some people think that working in the cleaning area is low. But let me tell you that these cleaning jobs are honorable and rewarding. Just imagine a house or an office that was not cleaned for ages. Not such a pretty image, is it? Well, there are situations in which you just cannot find a trustworthy housekeeper or janitor. Cleaning jobs usually require the workers to organize, dust, wipe and clean up the room(s).
Housekeepers
As a housekeeper, you are required to clean all the rooms from a house which the employer assigns you with. Basically, as a housekeeper, you must dust the furniture, sweep and mop the floors, vacuum the carpets and scrub the bathroom tiles. Besides this, the housekeeper is in charge of maintaining the cleaning supplies and other equipment. If something goes wrong or you just need some more cleaning products, don't fear to ask your employer about this. Additionally, you must make the beds, do all the laundry and don't forget about ironing the clothes. Moreover, you have to wash all the windows and doors. Bare in mind the fact that you have to respect the regulations regarding safety and health measures. If you work as a housekeeper in different houses, you must work under each of your employer's policies. Every employer has his own preferences so you have to fulfill every task he or she gives you. This depends mainly on your employer but let me tell you that you can work as a nanny as well. Besides all these, you have to do the groceries and even cook if needed.
Janitors
As a janitor, you will have to clean, sweep, mop, scrub and vacuum building floors. Besides this, you have to gather and empty all the trash bins and make sure you have all the cleaning products in the supply room. If you need something just go and ask your employer to supply your needs. Don't forget to clean and polish the furniture and fixtures. In addition, as a janitor, you will have to clean the windows, glasses and mirrors using sponges and special soaps. If needed, make the necessary small repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing or electrical systems. Pay attention to mix the water and detergents or acids in special containers in order to prepare the cleaning solutions, respecting the specifications given. If there are carpets in some offices, you should steam clean or shampoo the carpets. If you work in a laboratory, you should clean all the equipments and the metal instruments using special solvents, rags, brushes and power cleaning equipment. Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways and parking areas using shovels or by spreading snow melting chemicals. Last but not least, spray all the equipments with pesticides or insecticides to prevent insect infestation.
In general, housekeepers and janitors are responsible for the maintenance of houses and buildings. You should be in good physical health and you should be able to stay on your feet for hours as well as bend or move heavy furniture and equipment. It's a demanding and quite tiring job, but it is rewarding. People should respect more the jobs related to cleaning because without these people that are working all day long, we wouldn't have a decent place to live in or to work at. Just don't be ashamed of yourself and your job because every job is honorable.
