Lecturers go in front of a class and lecture to children. This is a way of teaching used for more intellectually developed persons. They are teachers but still it's even harder to become a lecturer than a teacher, mainly because you need some postsecondary education attending for that. A doctoral degree or a candidate to this degree has more chances of getting this job than other do, but even persons who only have a master degree and a long career in teaching can apply for this position. Even if you are hired as a lecturer without having high studies, you will have to finish them in time. Being a lecturer is like you never finish educating yourself on higher levels. Other Ways
It doesn't mean that you have to wait until you are near retirement to be considered a solid candidate for this job. In fact many institutions are inclined to accept fresh graduates for entry level positions because they are more enthusiastic and have more chances to continue studying in that domain and to become experts. You could first start by gaining a teaching assistance ship position inside the university and you will be required to do administrative tasks, to take care of the evaluation forms or even to teach specific course sections. But the next step you are looking for is gaining a tenure track position, which is not easy at all. Together with this stage also comes a wide freedom in your activity so this is something worth fighting for. Lots of ambition and hard work could help.
