Inventory clerks maintains and compiles the records of quantity, value of material, type, merchandise, equipment, counts material, posts totals to inventory records by using computer or manually. Inventory clerks help to complete a physical inventory for clients around the local area of stores. They count the merchandise in the stocks and store room. For each inventory, arrival time is set, however, the count continues until inventory is finished. Lifting and ladder climbing is also required. They compare inventories to office records or calculate figures from records such as production records, sales orders or purchase invoices to obtain current inventory. They adjust errors in computation or count and verify clerical computations against physical count of stalk.
They prepare reports such as price list, inventory balance and shortages. They make list of depleted items and survey of unusable and defective items. Sometimes they operate office machines like typewriter or calculator. Stalk, merchandise and issue materials are also done by them. They require lifting equipment or fiberboard storage files that weigh up to fifty pounds. They work with various departmental offices to obtain information to completing inventory forms. The work of inventory clerk is performed under supervision. They do other work as required.
