Domestic Airlines

During recent years, the domestic airlines have evolved exceptionally. In fact, domestic airlines are the highest growing section of the airline industry. These domestic airlines are benefited mostly due to their new, small jets and less working expenses.

As per the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), about 30 domestic carriers are operating in the industry today. According to the latest data from the Regional Airline Association (RAA) almost 20 percent of the regional airline passengers prefer domestic airlines. Also, planes operating in the domestic markets cover almost 35 percent of the commercial airline market.

The International airline carriers have also started to take interest in domestic airlines. To control the regional market, they have begun to tie up with domestic airlines. Delta is in charge of Comair, at the same time the American controls American Eagle. Compass Airlines turned into a subordinate of Northwest in April 2006. This development is also replicated in the European countries. These alliances with major airlines are occurring domestically as well as internationally.

Domestic and small budget airlines companies avoid the airport center issue completely by deciding to function at distant airports. Southwest airline uses Islip airport in the neighborhood of New York city, while JetBlue selected Long Beach in Los Angeles as their base. Also domestic airlines are in a position to widen their wings.

Nowadays, some of the domestic airlines prefer a long haul journey. Midwest Airlines also known as Midwest Express formerly joined many cities in the Midwest to places like Boston, San Francisco, Paris and New York.

The airlines industry is facing various problems including low profitability, operating expenses, high cost of air fuel, labor spats and low pensions. However, the domestic airlines are solving such problems.
