Food Service Worker Cover Letter

A food service professional is a worker who is responsible for preparing food in restaurants or places where food is served, like cafeterias and some of the banquet halls. The responsibilities of a food service worker will vary depending on the skills, job title and level. Some of the food workers will develop recipes, cook food; while others will be responsible for carrying out regular tasks like chopping meat and vegetables and washing the dishes.

A food service worker can be dishwasher, prep cook, manager, head chef or food server. A prep cook will work under the supervision of the head chef and he/she will have to prepare meat, chop vegetables and measure the ingredients as required. A prep cook will sometimes have to perform a double duty as a dishwasher.

A food server creates an impression on customers by providing them fast and efficient services. They are responsible for taking the customer's orders, serving them food and accepting food payments. They need to know the complete menu for serving the customers. A head chef is someone who will develop the entire menu and oversee the operation of the kitchen.

All food service workers have to work in a very fast-paced and high-pressure environment. Excellent abilities to communicate effectively and clearly is one of the most important skills. Servers have to make orders that are known to the cooks and kitchen and they should be able to instruct the workers working under them. Servers and cooks have to work on their feet for maximum time.

If you think that you are someone who can handle this fast-paced, high pressure and physically demanding job, then you can start applying for jobs. Job applications need to go out with an introductory cover letter. A cover letter should be only about your skills, qualifications and background. Here is a sample food service worker cover letter that you can use as an example.

Dear Mr. Dayton,

I am writing this application letter in response to your advertisement on www.seek.com for the position of a part-time Food Service Worker in your organization. I have attached a copy of my resume along with this letter with all the equal opportunities monitoring forms as set on the job specifications.

I am currently studying at the University of New York in English Literature. I have worked as a waiter and cook in my home town, California. I loved my work and have gained all the basic skills required for this job. At my previous job, I have been rewarded the best food server with communication skills award.

This position has captured my immediate attention as it is part-time and suits my study schedule. You also have given the option to work front office. I like talking to people and have a very positive and open nature and this work definitely motivates me. I am polite and friendly and I know that working in front office will need a friendly person.

I would also like to inform you that I have only already planned one-week holiday starting from this coming Friday. I am confident that I will be able to bring a good amount of enthusiasm and will prove to be a hardworking and helpful team player at your organization.

If you need any further information about my schedule or skills, feel free to contact me at 937-384-2835 or e-mail me at f.monica@example.com. Thank you for giving your valuable time.

Yours sincerely,
Monica Fernandez
