Sommelier Cover Letter

A sommelier is a professional who knows everything about wine and how to enhance its flavor by matching it with the right food. This profession is ideally suited to those people who have a sensitive taste and love wine. Wine tasting is considered as a wonderful experience and sommeliers are perfect guides to this experience. The job responsibility of a sommelier is describing the wine in depth, tell everyone where the wine was derived from, kinds of grapes used, name of vineyard, and the region where that specific wine is produced. Once the customer selects the wine, the sommelier will have to get the wine and pour it in the right glass.

A sommelier will always encourage the customer for smelling the wine as he or she is describing the components of wine. If required, then the sommelier will decant the wines, which is always done for red wine, which has aged for more than ten years. Pouring a wine in decanter is a unique technique where the wine is allowed to breathe. Decanting will also help in separating different sediments, which has settled in the bottom of the wine bottle. A sommelier will also help in creating a wine list for the restaurant or will come up with his or her menu.

To qualify for this job, there are some prerequisites for becoming a sommelier in the US. However, it might get difficult for a sommelier to get a job without any credentials. Some of the organizations will offer different courses, which will later lead into certifications and diplomas offered from the International Sommelier Guild. Organizations will usually prefer someone who has achieved a designation of Court of Master Sommelier. Once you have the required qualifications, then you can start drafting your cover letter to mention all these skills and qualifications. It is very important to write a cover letter, because that is the only way of creating a first strong impact on the employer. Dear Mr. Sanders,

I have always admired your restaurant and considered it as one of the best places in the locality. Your restaurant offers the best service and cuisine, and after I came across your advertisement, I was enthusiastic to apply for employment. Therefore, I would request you to consider my resume today.

I have been working in the restaurant industry since the last seven years. I have achieved a degree from Victoria University in Hotel Management, and have vast experience in managing a restaurant, The Renaissance Hotels for the last four years. For the last three years, I have been working as a restaurant sommelier, and I was responsible for some of the major accountabilities for this same position, and I have completed them seamlessly. I am a good operational expert, and I am completely aware of the significance of customer service, cleanliness, and quality product. In addition, I know all the wines and with what food they taste best-as I have training in this field, and I have travelled the entire world where I gained hands on experience about different regions and varietals of wine.

If you think that my qualifications are good enough, and interesting, then I would request you to give me a call on 630-341-4393. Thank you for devoting your time.

Sincerely,

Joshua Leung
