Aquarists work for marine species that are held captive in an acquarium at a zoo or a public park for the entertainment of people. Their duties is to feed fish and other marine species, maintain temperature and keep tanks clean, repair equipment, assist in presentation, and provide educational and entertaining information to visitors. Some employment settings may also ask them to travel and collect specimens from oceans, rivers, and lakes. Besides zoos and theme parks, aquarists also work in laboratories and research facilities.

You can start an aquarist career with a bachelor's degree in marine biology. As a stepping stone, you can work as an intern at an aquarium.
