Data entry is the process of writing some form of data into another form using a computer program. These forms of data that are transcribed include information of worksheets from another source, handwritten documents, letters and symbols, numbers or usual data like addresses and names. Word Processor

Word processors, also called typists, have the job to enter information with which letters, reports and other documents are created. They work with a keyboard and a word processing program, and create text files which must be corrected of punctuation, spelling and grammar errors. Typists ensure the appearance of the document by verifying the page numbers, adjust margins and use proper fonts. Some word processors may be in charge of technical documents and use specific information to create charts, diagrams and tables. Some word processors will have to perform office duties such as answering phone calls or making photocopies. Word processors do not need a formal training because most of them learn on-the-job.

Transcriptionist

A transcriptionist is a person who listens to recordings and transcribes the information into reports or other documents. A transcriptionist normally uses a pair of headsets and stops the recording in order to write the information into a particular word processing program. His/her job is to proofread and edit the document and make sure it is error-free. Transcriptionists may work in a court by creating legal documents or in the medical area, transcribing prescriptions and others may work with general clients transcribing data and information for business reports, letters and other materials. Transcriptionists must be prepared for this job by taking specific training in transcription courses.

Data Entry Keyer

Keyers are given lists of items, numbers and other data which they have to introduce into a computer software program. Most of the time, data entry keyers are in charge of introducing data from checks and licenses, and they introduce them directly by typing or scanning the documents at first and use a program that recognizes the characters and transfer data in the program used. Keyers must check for potential mistakes and correct any type of errors. Most of the data entry keyers work under supervision, and this position does not necessarily require training because they learn their duties on-the-job from an instructor.
