Maintenance workers are the ones that keep the world clean and in a functioning order while performing all necessary tasks which are sometimes not very appreciated. Almost all the maintenance positions require minimum or no formal education, since most of the job is learned through on-the-job training. However, what all maintenance jobs have in common is the physical labor and there are different types of careers to follow in maintenance and here are a few examples of such jobs.
Maintenance Machinists
Maintenance machinists work in different kinds of manufacturing businesses, troubleshooting and fixing broken machines and producing new pieces, if needed, for machinery. While they are creating new pieces, they assign to the machine's original prototype and recreate the component following on the original specifications. Maintenance machinists must have the skills to work with plenty different types of machines. They must have the ability to respond to quick learning on how to handle repairs because of the technology which changes quickly and new mechinery that are inserted. This is why they must be informed about new engineering calculations and methods.
Ground Maintenance Workers
People who work in ground maintenance have the responsibility to perform various tasks such as caring for trees, plants, landscaping, raking leaves, and mowing the lawn. This job requires a lot of physical work in environmental conditions of cold or heat. To work in this domain, no formal education is needed because training can be given on-the-job. Employees who work with one company for a durable period of time and who have activity training may improve to become supervisors of a team of landscaping or groundskeepers. Also, many ground maintenance workers decide to open their own businesses and become self-employed after working for a while for the company. There are a few maintenance jobs which are seasonal, yet most of the businesses need full-time ground maintenance workers.
Highway Maintenance Workers
Highway maintenance workers protect, repair and structure new road in town and rural regions and sometimes, they maintain airport runways. They have the duty to fill potholes, fix old and damaged roadways, increase lanes and highways, replace defense rails and signs, and remove snow and throw sand on roads in icy circumstances. Highway maintenance workers are usually hired by the federal government or the state.
Building Maintenance
Building administrators have various maintenance jobs at a suite building or other residential occupying complex. They are in charge of directing regular maintenance, and fix the interior and exterior of the building, such as repairing damaged locks, replacing light bulbs, and adjusting the holes in the walls. Administrators also answer service calls ranked by tenants when there are some problems within their apartments. Most of the building administrators have skills related to performing electrical work and plumbing, and many have specialized licenses or certificates to perform enumerated fixing jobs on specific systems.
