Planes are the fastest mean of transport that people have ever invented. And it really took them a lot of time, efforts and life sacrifices for getting things done. But wasn't it worth to invent something that can take you to the other side of the world in only a few hours? There are some dangers too, but you cannot win without risking something. So, many people started taking risks to provide us with what we now call the airlines service. It's all about planes and airports and a lot of people with a lot of tasks and responsibilities that include offering tickets, making reservations, leading passengers to the terminal, taking care of the luggage, assuring the security and so on and so forth. I'm just going to list some of the most important working positions you can find in an airport: assistant manager, director, engineers, safety personnel, operator for fixed base, service persons, drivers, fueler, terminal concessionaire, food servicer and security operator.
The Fueler Worker
Obviously, no plane can fly without fuel. This is why every airport hires personnel especially for taking care of the fueling equipment. They usually fill a whole truck with fuel and drive it after that to the aircraft. Still, they can be asked to transport power carts or to some special cleaning equipment or the air conditioning. The job is not easy at all because they work outdoors in no matter what kind of weather conditions. They must be in an extremely good physical shape in order to be able to carry all those hard equipments and it is quite dangerous to operate such enormous quantities of fuel and the whole process can be repeated for up to 30 times a day. All they need is a high school diploma possessed by the candidate for the concerned position, but it's a lot of hard work and the salary is not so great.
The Safety Personnel
There are so many people that pass every day and night through an airport; hence it is impossible to let them all stay in there without at least a minimum of surveillance. When we say safety personnel, we don't really have to think of those screeners who make sure that no one uses guns or harmful items with the purpose of doing some sort of crimes. We also refer at firefighters, police officers, medical personnel, officers or paramedics. Depending on every single position, working conditions may vary, just like the financial rewards. But one thing is sure, that is, you can never get bored while working in an airport.
The Terminal Concessionaire
A terminal concessionaire is someone working inside a terminal and making sure that people wait calmly and peacefully for their planes to be ready for takeoff. A terminal is a huge space with restaurants, gift shops, news stands and even book stores. You can find everything you need for time to pass easier inside the terminal.
FBO
FBO is the abbreviation from the Fixed-base operator which is usually a company or a firm specialized in providing and selling aviation services and products, for aircraft and airports, in airports. Depending on how large is the airport the FBO can have two employees or some tens. If these employees also have some mechanics knowledge they might be even required to supervise the mechanics and their activity. They can be considered entrepreneurs since their tasks directly influence the general perception of the customers about the services that the airport has to offer them. Working conditions vary depending on how developed are the general facilities, from hangars to showrooms.
