Photography Jobs can often start with a professional camera or as a hobby. However, behind renowned photographers lies vast experience and training in art schools. Photographers are often artists who use a different way of expressing themselves, but this job category holds a large variety of jobs, of which, some have nothing to do with art.
Most photographers prefer to be unemployed. This way, they get to take the photographs of their choice, and then try and find buyers for them. Photographers can be found in various domains such as arts, entertainment, or publishing. But you should know that almost all photographers have an artistic potential.
Fashion Photographer
A very successful field for a photographer is fashion. There are many opportunities as a fashion photographer, be it for fashion shoots, creating portfolios, creating pictorials, catching the essence and reporting on it or creating books for the models. Many companies also need photographers for catalogues, either for clothes, but also for other objects as well.
Similar to this field, there is wedding photography, which specializes in capturing the details and the beauty of a special event, such as a wedding, or other events of this nature.
Photographers may choose to work in the advertising industry as well, where they need to create, through photography, an entire concept.
Paparazzi
In the entertainment business, the most famous and the most discredited is probably the paparazzo. Most paparazzi are freelancers, chasing stars and reporting on them, and then making offers to sell the pictures to tabloids and other magazines willing to print the pictures.
Most photographers however prefer to be reporters, even though this does not create the same amount of income as the previous categories. However, it gives the opportunity of earning important, meaningful awards, such as the Pulitzer Prize.
Photographer Reporter
Being a photographer reporter means working for newspapers, for news channels, reporting on the hottest pieces of news, being first on the scene and delivering original photographs. Some photographers report events that take place for a longer period of time, such as wars, or natural disasters.
There is also crime scene photography, its purpose being reporting on the crime which has been committed, for forensic records.
Most people choose however artistic photography, which means usually landscapes, still life, or portraits.
The family portrait is also a sort of photography that people prefer.
Over the past years, portrait photography has developed, towards other areas, such as: pet portraits, artistic real life snapshots, and many others.
