Executive Chef

The executive chef is also known under the name of Chef de Cuisine and it goes without saying that this is the highest position in the culinary hierarchy. Being the executive chef means that you are in charge of the kitchen. You are responsible to train your assistant chefs. Also, you have to be a creative person in order to plan, create and approve dishes, as well as the menu. As a head chef, you must be sure that all the meals that are produced in your kitchen must be presented properly and have the necessary quality. Additionally, the chef must supervise food production and must promote safety and proper sanitation. If needed, the chef can introduce new products and control food waste. Also, the executive chef is the one that handles all of the customers' complaints.

Sous Chef

The sous chef is also known as the assistant chef. The sous chef is like the right-hand of the executive chef. As an assistant chef, you direct the kitchen staff which may include scheduling or dealing with your team. The sous chef will make sure that the food served in the restaurant or in any other commercial kitchens are of the best quality. Being the right hand of the executive chef means that you will have to help planning the menu, manage the inventory and the supplies. Besides this, you have to make sure that the kitchen has all the safety standards up to date. It is not easy being the assistant chef. As a sous chef, you will come across situations when you will have to act quickly and make smart decisions.

Senior Chef

The senior chef usually called Chef de Partie is assigned to make a menu specialty in which he or she is the best. As a senior chef, you may also have to direct and train small staff from minor kitchens and assistant cooks. Similar to the seniors chefs are the demi chefs. As a demi chef, you have to specialize in a particular type of dish. A good example is a sushi chef.

Other Types of Chefs

Other types of chefs are the pastry chefs, celebrity chefs, private or personal chefs. Pastry chefs are responsible for creating the dessert menu. The celebrity chefs are important because they made this job very popular. And as for the private or personal chefs, they are found in the private households kitchens.
