Show me one person who doesn't enjoy traveling and I am going to say that he or she has some serious problems. Everybody loves traveling, no matter where or how. Escaping from the daily routine, from the annoying boss, from the stressful work environment and from all the other worries can easily be done, once you get on board of a plane or of a ship, in a car or in a train. Just the simple idea that you are going away clears your mind and makes you feel happier. And while some of us can barely experience this joy once in a year, others have made a living out of it. There are a lot of people who have jobs that make them travel most of the time. Are they happier or more excited about what they are doing or not? Is it such a blessing to travel all the time? When does this joy turn into a burden? We will see...
There are a lot of jobs on the market that require the candidates to travel a lot. Flight attendants, sales representatives, international travel consultant, visitor service specialist, cruise manager, hotel rate coordinator, consultant for corporate travel, concierge, professional wrestlers, models, teachers working abroad, sports instructors, travel writings, tour guides, international volunteer positions, documentary film makers, journalists, diplomatic service, chefs - all these are just a few of the most interesting jobs that take you on higher or lower grounds, every day you go to work.
Obviously, various educational backgrounds and skills are required for performing the duties, but there are some general skills to help you face the travels. One should have extremely good communicational and interpersonal skills, some knowledge of foreign languages, good orientation, etc. Smart and confident persons are more likely to succeed doing this because although you are financially supported by the company you work for to go on a trip, once you reach the destination, you are on your own. And you can never know what to expect as unpredictable things may always occur.
Advantages
Well, where should I start? First of all, these jobs offer a wide range of experiences. When traveling, there is not one day like the other; you always meet new people and gather important life experience. Depending on how developed is the firm you work for or on how important the reason of your visit is, you might benefit from impressive treatments and conditions. Otherwise said, someone traveling in work interest is more likely to have a luxurious life or at least better conditions than at their own homes. And if you are keen about traveling, I have nothing else to say on how great it would be to perform this job.
Disadvantages
Well, what did you expect? There are disadvantages too. At some point, you might feel like you had enough of traveling. Yes, it happens. It's not all about pleasure, but also about responsibilities and many times you might find yourself in the situation of going somewhere for a meeting and then going on to the next destination without even having the time to see anything else, but an office and a hotel room. No matter how nice those hotels and offices might be, you most probably want to see some other things too. And you might also miss your family sometimes. And the worst part is that you cannot drop everything and head home. There are high stakes and interests to take care of and you are fully responsible on how the company will be represented. So things are not always that peachy as they seem for people who have to travel a lot for work.
