What is a Charity Job?
Charity jobs are special professional domains that offer vacancies in charity work, non-profit organizations or in the voluntary sector, within NGOs for example. They require a special kind of "employees", people interested in social, environmental or even religious issues and with a great desire to make a difference through their work and using their unique skills to do so. Given that charity jobs are usually not paid jobs, with salary rates and financial benefits, the people that are looking for a job in the charities field aren't money-oriented, but find it more important to concentrate on humane aspects before thinking of material gain.
Although this sounds ideal for most of the people, it can be discouraging to know that these kinds of jobs don't imply a monthly paycheck and a constant and reliable source of revenue. But there are some to which the financial gain isn't necessary and who can afford to spend their time and energy without any other personal compensation than that of knowing they helped a cause.
Income Possibilities
Still, there are possibilities of financial earnings. Non-profit organizations and other charity institutions are aware of the fact that people that concentrate on their causes need to support themselves while doing so, and in order to keep the numbers up to the demand, certain salary opportunities exist. For example, fundraising are used for the causes and for the organization's existence in itself, but also for paying moderate salaries to those that participate in the charity work. Fundraising can have private sources, or governmental sources. Another possibility is that of selling goods and services adequate to the organization's profile (social care, animal care, environmental care, religion, arts, and education).
What Charity Work can you do?
Charity jobs are as diversified as those in the profit sector. Any training, skill and ability can become of use in a volunteer organization, such as accounting, IT expertise, medical expertise, research, engineering or project manager. In order to successfully help a cause, an organization needs experts in different fields, starting with professionals that can directly work on the issue (also called "sharp-end" employees) and ending with specialists that can improve the organization's strategies of fundraising and procedures with IT or marketing solutions. These organizations also have high positions, such as fundraising executive or manager, or fundraising assistant. They all get salaries, although they are smaller than those in the business field.
All these types of work need special skills that start with compassion and the firmness in wanting to help a cause. Creativity, dynamism, patience, communicational skills, high ability to work with all sorts of people in all sorts of conditions, the availability to travel and support causes in locations world-wide and a lot of passion are necessary conditions in order to be successful as a charity worker and to be able to make a difference in the cause you are supporting and not give up if it becomes difficult.
